Jim Rome to deliver keynote at Thoroughbred Owner Conference

Thoroughbred owner and sports radio personality Jim Rome will deliver the keynote address when OwnerView, The Jockey Club, and the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association host the second Thoroughbred Owner Conference in Hallandale Beach, Fla., next January.

The conference will be held at Gulfstream Park from Jan. 11 to 14, 2016, during the week leading up to the Eclipse Awards, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016. The conference will include two days of presentations, as well as a welcome reception, gala dinner, day of racing at Gulfstream, and opportunities to network with panelists and industry personnel.

Rome, who hosts "The Jim Rome Show" on CBS Sports Radio and "Jim Rome on Showtime," has experienced significant success campaigning horses under the nom de course Jungle Racing LLC. His notable runners have included Eclipse Award champion juvenile Shared Belief, who has won five Grade 1 events and 10 of 12 starts overall; and two-time Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner Mizdirection, who bankrolled more than $1.7 million.

OwnerView is a joint effort spearheaded by The Jockey Club and the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association to encourage ownership of Thoroughbreds and provide accurate information on trainers, public racing syndicates, the process of purchasing and owning a Thoroughbred, racehorse retirement, and owner licensing. The inaugural Thoroughbred Owner Conference was held in the fall of 2014 at Keeneland.

“The inaugural Thoroughbred Owner Conference proved to be a hit with experienced owners as well as those who were considering delving into Thoroughbred ownership,” said Gary Falter, vice president of operations for Ownerview. “Jim Rome’s passion for the racing industry as an owner and fan make him an ideal keynote speaker, one who can vividly describe the thrill of owning a Thoroughbred racehorse.”
