Jim Dandy winner Kensei euthanized

Kensei, winner of the Grade 2 Jim Dandy in 2009, was euthanized after he sustained a broken right front cannon bone during a routine gallop at Belmont Park Tuesday, according to a New York Racing Association press release.

Kensei, a 5-year-old son of Mr. Greeley owned by Stonestreet Stables and trained by Steve Asmussen, had a record of 5 wins, 4 seconds, and 2 thirds from 18 starts and earned $751,364. He won the Grade 2 Dwyer at Belmont in 2009 and the Grade 3 Salvator Mile at Monmouth Park earlier this summer.
