ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Jiggs Coz ($3.80) established himself as the prohibitive favorite for the June 24 Queen's Plate with a decisive score in the nine-furlong, $151,200 Plate Trial Stakes on Sunday at Woodbine.

Jiggs Cozz broke alertly under David Clark and proceeded to stalk slow fractions of 23.92 and 48.32 seconds, which were set by Alezzandro.

Jiggs Cozz joined Alezzandro on the lead at the quarter pole, and then kicked clear in the stretch to prevail by 3 1/4 lengths. Marchfield rallied wide for second, and Alezzandro faded to third in the eight-horse field of Canadian-bred 3-year-olds. The final time, 1:50.77 seconds, was just .28 of a second off the track record.

"We thought there'd be a little more pace in the race, but it didn't develop," said Clark. "He was dragging me out of the tack the first part, but he settled. He got a little tired, but it was his first time packing 126 pounds."

Jiggs Coz earned $90,000 in his third straight stakes win for Jim Dandy Stable.
