'Jiffyjimmy' gets second Sales shot

EDMONTON, Alberta - Jiffyjimmygee is eyeing another big payoff in the Sales Stakes series at Northlands Park that has been expanded this year to include 3-year-olds.

Jiffyjimmygee, trained by Floyd Arthur, will try to follow up on his Sales Stakes victory as a 2-year-old. He will face six rivals from post 2 in the inaugural $50,000 Sale Stakes at one mile for male 3-year-olds.

"Our decision to include stakes for 3-year-olds should be an added spur for our horsemen to patronize Alberta-breds," said Rennie Gellner, manager of the Alberta division of the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society.

"We inaugurated sales stakes for 2-year-olds in 1990, and expanded to have a separate division for the fillies in 1997. We feel that it proved beneficial to our yearling sales, and expect that introducing sales stakes for 3-year-olds will further benefit our sales in the future."

Jiffyjimmygee comes into Sunday's race off a strong third-place to Oceans Seven, beaten a half-length, in an optional claiming race. He will be ridden by Quincy Welch, who is currently the runaway leader in the jockey standings.

Jiffyjimmygee is rematched with Oceans Seven, who will be ridden by Stephan Heiler from the rail.

Trainer Dale Saunders will saddle an uncoupled pair in Parlay's Prospect and Double Doc.

Marie Empey claimed Parlay's Prospect for $15,000 from his most recent start, which produced his third victory this year.

Double Doc finished a narrowly beaten second in his latest start at the allowance level.
