JHRA July sale features first Frankel foal to be offered at public auction

The Japan Horse Racing Association’s July select sale will be the first opportunity for buyers to purchase a foal by European Horse of the Year Frankel at public auction.

The two-day sale will be held July 14-15 at the Northern Horse Park on the island of Hokkaido in Japan. The catalog, which will be available online May 30, features 260 yearlings and 231 foals.

Among the offerings will be the notable Frankel foal, a filly out of the winning Foxhound mare Goodwood March, whose four winners from as many foals to race include Gold-Fun, a five-time stakes winner in Hong Kong, and English stakes winner Body and Soul. Goodwood March brought about $1.11 million in foal to Frankel at the 2013 Tattersalls December mare sale.

The Frankel filly is from the family of French St. Leger winner Mersey and French Group 1 winner Muncie. She is consigned by Mishima Farm.

The sale also features foals from the first crop of dual U.S. classic winner I’ll Have Another, who was sold to Japan’s Big Red Farm at the end of his racing career. The son of Flower Alley has five foals cataloged in the sale, all of which are colts.

Other international sires represented with foals in the catalog include Empire Maker, Awesome Again, Candy Ride, Discreetly Mine, Distorted Humor, Exceed and Excel, Johannesburg, Lonhro, Sea the Stars, Speightstown, Street Sense, Summer Bird, Tapizar, and Unbridled’s Song.
