Trainer Kirk Ziadie scratched the odds-on favorite Whenthedoveflies from Saturday's Bob Slater Stakes at Gulfstream Park but still went home with the major share of the $50,000 purse when stablemate Jewels N Gems posted a neck victory over 12-1 outsider Pandora's Secret in the five-furlong turf dash.

Whenthedoveflies is generally regarded to be among the premier turf sprinters of either gender stabled in Florida, while Jewels N Gems had made only one previous start on grass. Jewels N Gems, though, proved to be an ample replacement for her more accomplished barnmate, rallying from just off the pace before running down June Tune and then holding off Pandora's Secret.

Pandora's Secret finished a neck in front of the tiring June Tune, who inherited the lead from Amandine approaching the quarter pole and led until late stretch. Cayuga's Waters, the even-money favorite, finished a non-threatening fourth in a field of seven fillies and mares.

Jewels N Gems covered five furlongs in 56.43 seconds over a firm course and paid $8.40.
