Jet Black Magic won her second stakes race of the Delta Downs meet on Friday night, rallying for a three-length win over Smittys Cougar in the $100,000 Azalea. Earlier in the meet, Jet Black Magic captured the Grade 3, $400,000 Delta Downs Princess. The Azalea, a 7 1/2-furlong race run around two turns, was restricted to 3-year-old fillies bred in Louisiana. Jet Black Magic ($6) settled off the pace set by Smittys Cougar, who took the field through an opening quarter in 23.85 seconds, a half-mile in 48.61, and six furlongs in 1:14.12. Jet Black Magic started to pick off rivals after a half-mile and went on to cover the distance on a track rated fast in 1:34.01. Colby Hernandez was aboard the winner for Carl Moore Management and trainer Bret Calhoun. Jet Black Magic earned $60,000 for the win, her third victory from seven starts. She has earned $373,380. Jet Black Magic is a daughter of Hold Me Back and was bred by Clear Creek Stud. Her dam, the winner Rhodelia, is a half-sister to Superior Storm, a 13-time stakes winner who earned $1,066,873.
