Jessica's credentials stand out

GROVE CITY City, Ohio - Jessica, upset winner of the $60,000 Best of Ohio Juvenile Fillies last out on Oct. 4, heads a field of nine statebred 2-year-old fillies in Sunday's $50,000 John W. Galbreath Memorial Stakes at Beulah Park.

In the Best of Ohio, Jessica stalked the pace to the stretch of the 1 1/16-mile race and reached the front entering the stretch. She went on to win by two lengths, despite bearing out late under jockey Russ Woolsey.

Jessica, a daughter of Doc's Leader, is the only stakes winner in the Galbreath field. She has won two of her four career starts and has earnings of $45,320 for trainer Jerry Sparks and owner-breeder Darrell Sapp.

Woolsey, who rides at Thistledown, will once again be in for the mount. Jessica will carry 122 pounds under the allowance conditions of the Galbreath and spot her rivals from nine to 15 pounds.

Royal Cup may be the main danger to Jessica on Sunday. She pressed the pace while racing three wide to the stretch of the Best of Ohio Juvenile Fillies before weakening to finish third, beaten 8 1/4 lengths. Royal Cup got loose and ran off for over a half-mile before that race.

Perry Ouzts has a return call aboard Royal Cup, who will be coupled in the wagering with Whitewater Wave. Both fillies are trained by Albert Palacios.
