Jemayal, an 11-1 outsider, edged the previously unbeaten Camprock in Monday’s $282,775 Prix Saint-Alary for 3-year-old fillies at Deauville in France, giving owner Sheikh Joann’s Al Shaqab Racing of Qatar its second group stakes win at the popular seaside racecourse in as many days.

On Sunday, Al Shaqab’s Mekhtaal won the Group 2 Prix Hocquart for 3-year-old colts and fillies.

Jemayal finished a head in front of Camprock in the Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary at 1 1/4 miles on turf, a prep for the French Oaks at Chantilly on June 19. Ridden by Gregory Benoist for Jean Claude-Rouget, Jemayal raced in the middle of a field of nine to the final furlong before taking the lead. Camprock rallied from the middle of the pack to just miss.

Hawksmoor, an English import who was third in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket in England last October, finished third.

Jemayal, by Lope de Vega, has won 2 of 5 starts for Al Shaqab. She won a conditions race at Longchamp last September and was second in the Group 3 Prix des Reservoirs for 2-year-old fillies at Deauville last October.
