Jazzn Boots no longer a 10-1 shot

PORTLAND, Ore. - A field of 10 2-year-old Quarter Horses, including a pair of stable couplings, will vie for a purse of $59,000 in Saturday's renewal of the Far West Futurity Finals at 400 yards.

Jazzn Boots and One Fast Trick, who won the two fastest trials run here on Dec. 4, will likely compete for favoritism.

Jazzn Boots was sent off at 10-1 in his trial, but he drew off to score by a resounding 2 1/2 lengths over heavily favored Easy Kipa Dash in 20.26 seconds, the fastest clocking of the day. Jazzn Boots, a son of Spanish Boot who races for Jimmie Easter, posted his second win from five career starts in his trial victory, which he accomplished from the inside post. Trained by Mark Garrison, Jazzn Boots will break from post 6 on Saturday, when he will again be ridden by Brian Theriot.

One Fast Trick won her trial in 20.34 seconds when she defeated Kylee Can Dance by 1 1/2 lengths under regular rider Twyla Beckner. One Fast Trick, a homebred daughter of Dash Ta Fame who races for trainer Ron Raley, has won six of her seven career starts. Beckner will again ride on Saturday, breaking from post 9.

One Fast Trick will be coupled in the wagering with Latigos N Lace, a lightly raced daughter of Mr. Eye Opener who finished fourth to Jazzn Boots in her trial. Latigos N Lace will break from the outside under Shawna Barber.

Also coupled are Famous Phil and Chewy Cheng, both of whom race for Chris Philbrook.
