Maoschistic's victory in the Grade 2 Pat O'Brien at Del Mar was part of a coast-to-coast success last weekend for Jay Em Ess Stable.

Samantha Siegel’s Jay Em Ess Stable enjoyed coast-to-coast success last weekend.

A few hours after the homebred By the Moon ran a game second in the Grade 1 Ballerina Stakes at Saratoga, Masochistic, whom Jay Em Ess co-owns with Will Shamlian’s Los Pollos Hermanos Racing, won the Grade 2 Pat O’Brien Stakes. He defeated just two other horses but did so handily in 1:20.31 for seven furlongs, just off the track record of 1:20.

Jay Em Ess purchased a partial interest in Masochistic early in his 2015 campaign. He went on to win the Grade 1 Triple Bend and Grade 2 Kona Gold Stakes before finishing 14th in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint. Following an extended layoff, the 6-year-old California-bred son of Sought After has won both of his starts this year.

By the Moon, beaten half a length in the Ballerina by Haveyougoneaway, was coming into the race off a win in the Grade 3 Bed o’ Roses Handicap at Belmont. The Indian Charlie filly, who won the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes as a juvenile two years ago, has now placed in four other Grade 1 events.

Jay Em Ess Stable is named for the initials of Samantha Siegel and her late parents, Jan and Mace, who were heavily involved in the Thoroughbred industry in California. Mace Siegel co-founded the Thoroughbred Owners of California.
