Jane of Arcadia eyes rebound

Jane of Arcadia may rate a slight edge as a field of seven Nebraska-bred fillies and mares go one mile in Friday's $27,500 Falls Amiss Handicap as Horsemen's Park rolls into Day 2 of the four-day Festival of Racing in Omaha.

Jane of Arcadia was a fast-closing second in the Matchmaker Stakes at Lincoln on June 13, which proved to be her best effort of the year. She has followed up with a pair of nonthreatening runs against top allowance company.

A 4-year-old filly trained by Ron Westermann, Jane of Arcadia won the Fantango Lady Stakes for 3-year-old fillies here last summer but has yet to win this year. Damon Leeds has the ride.

Senorita Conchita has been installed as the morning-line favorite at 5-2, and will making her third start at a mile. She was a tiring fifth in last year's Fantango Lady Stakes. Her last start on July 5 came at a mile, and she set the pace before being worn down in the closing sixteenth to finish second, beaten a neck against open allowance company. Luis Ranilla has the ride for trainer Herb Riecken.

There likely will be a hard pace up front, as Senorita Conchita and Annadacious both appear intent on having the lead in this race. Annadacious has been sprinting against entry-level company going six furlongs.

Jackie Bea Star, claimed in her last start for $2,500 by trainer Marv Johnson, is the most likely to benefit from a likely speed duel. A 6-year-old daughter of Lasting Legend, Jackie Bea Star has a pair of wins at the $2,500 level this year. Armando Martinez will ride.
