Jadyns Jet wins maiden in futurity

COLUMBUS, Neb. - Jadyns Jet won his maiden at first asking in rousing fashion Friday night with a 16 1/4-length win in the $12,691 Columbus Futurity. Deputy's Whirl took the $13,100 Columbus Debutante by a widening 6 3/4 lengths.

Jadyns Jet made the pace while shadowed by Case on Ice, drew clear into the lane, then widened to the wire under Yuri Yaranga for trainer Larry Staroscik. He covered thesix furlongs in 1:17.60 over a fast track and returned $5.80 as the co-favorite in the field of four.

The race was marred by an accident as Sunny Coz I. M. bolted late in the first turn of the six-furlong race and crashed through the gap to the backside. Rider Damon Leeds appeared to bail off into the outer fence and did not ride the remainder of the card.

In the Debutante, Deputy's Whirl was impressive in repelling her challengers to draw off and give Yaranga a stakes double among his four wins on the card. Deputy's Whirl covered the six furlongs in 1:15.40 and returned $3.40 as the heavy favorite in a field of six Nebraska-bred fillies for trainer Bob Rising.
