Jade Peony sets sights on 4th in row

EDMONTON, Alberta - Jade Peony will shoot for her fourth consecutive victory when she faces six other fillies and mares in a $40,000 optional claiming sprint here at Northlands Park on Sunday.

Claimed out of a win for $30,000 on July 10, Jade Peony won right back for her new trainer Dale Greenwood at Sunday's 6 1/2-furlong distance. She began her winning streak against $22,000 claimers.

Jade Peony, a British Columbia-bred 7-year-old who has won five races during the season, retains the riding services of Quincy Welch. Claimed three times this year, Jade Peony will carry a $40,000 tag on Sunday.

Banjo Babe appears to be the major threat. She is coming off a strong second-place finish in the Fall Classic Distaff, beaten three-quarters of a length by S.L. Charmer at 1 1/16 miles. Trained by Don Gilkyson, Banjo Babe won by nearly eight lengths in a one-mile allowance two starts ago. Stephan Heiler has ridden her to three victories since obtaining the mount early in this meet.

Trainer Robert Kingston will saddle To Dream Again, who finished third in the Fall Classic Distaff. To Dream Again won at Calgary for $30,000 in a six-furlong sprint and has been second twice and third on four occasions. Perry Winters returns as her pilot.

Kellys Guest has won two allowances this year, and her best try against stakes mares came in the Marc Jenkins Memorial at Stampede Park where she finished third. Desmond Bryan has the mount for the first time this year.

Robyn's Request, who will be ridden by Rickey Walcott, won an optional claimer at Calgary.

Braetta and Moe's Hoedown, both winless this year, complete the field.
