Jackson has two futurity favorites

EmailMUSKEGON, Mich. - Trainer Laura Jackson has both program favorites in the split feature when she sends out Hot Chili and Berry's Pride in the 51st running of the $50,000 Michigan Futurity at Great Lakes Downs on Tuesday. The seven-furlong futurity divisions will be the first and second races on the 4:50 p.m. card, and each drew seven entries.

The race is the final stakes event on the Great Lakes calendar and quite probably the last in the short history of the track, which is being closed by Magna Entertainment at the end of the meet.

Hot Chili, owned by the Sharon Valley Thoroughbred Farm, was perfect as he marched through the juvenile stakes program here this season. He has earnings of $147,180 in five starts and has drawn post 5 in the second division.

Trainer Scott Sowle has entered With Wings, who will be ridden by jockey Freddie Mata in his Michigan debut. He is a maiden, but was recently third at Mountaineer.

Berry's Pride, owned by Jackson, is the choice in the first division. The homebred was second by a head to Hot Chili in his last start, the Patrick Wood Stakes. Mike Allen will ride from post 3.

Native Britches and Bipolar Express, second and third in the Sire Stakes behind Hot Chili, are in the same division with Berry's Pride.
