Jabibti dangerous off smashing victory

Jabibti got the win she had coming to her last out, and with a repeat of her effort in that 8 1/2-length romp she should be tough to handle Saturday night in the $40,000 New Braunfels at Retama Park.

The six-furlong race for fillies and mares also drew six others, including 3-year-olds Wacky Patty and Angelica Slew.

Jabibti, 5, had some close losses this spring at Lone Star Park. She set a rapid pace in a six-furlong allowance that went in 1:08.20, only to be overtaken by Savorthetime. Following that race, Savorthetime set a track record for six furlongs when she won the $100,000 Valid Expectations at Lone Star.

Jabibti returned in an optional claiming race and dueled through five furlongs in a blazing 55.80 seconds before finishing third to Clear in the West, who placed in stakes in her next two starts. Jabibti was given a break after those races. In her July 30 return she won a 5 1/2-furlong allowance at Retama in a blazing time of 1:03.80.

Edwin Maldonado has the mount on Jabibti, a granddaughter of Seeking the Gold, for trainer Ricardo Morales.

Wacky Patty returns to racing against older rivals after winning the $40,000 Lakeway at Retama in her last start. Angelica Slew returns to dirt and cuts back to one turn for the New Braunfels, and she has never been beaten under those conditions. Casey Lambert will ride Angelica Slew for trainer James McArthur.

* Late Expectations will make his 15th start since April 17 in the fifth race Saturday night. He will be dropping back into a starter allowance after running third in the $40,000 Chick Lang Jr. Memorial last Saturday.
