Izzacopy is a threat to repeat

Email

AUBURN, Wash. - Izzacopy will attempt to make it two in a row when he takes on seven other 3-year-olds in Friday's Emerald Downs feature, a first-level allowance test at six furlongs.

Izzacopy, a son of Cee's Tizzy from the barn of trainer Bud Klokstad, finished second to eventual Auburn Stakes winner Courting Seattle in his lone start as a juvenile. Coming back in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight affair on May 6, Izzacopy led throughout to score by 3 1/2 lengths in a very quick 1:02.80 as the 9-5 favorite. The effort seemed to suggest a good deal of quality, and Izzacopy hails from one of Washington's premier female families.

Bred by owner John Roche from his stakes-winning mare Run a Copy, Izzacopy is a grandson of Soft Copy. Soft Copy earned $313,153 through a career that saw her win stakes in Washington and California.

Izzacopy figures to get a stern challenge from Exclusive Eagle, a winner at the maiden special weight level here last season. Exclusive Eagle, who is trained by Craig Roberts, is coming off a sixth in the May 7 Auburn Stakes at six furlongs.

Also a threat is Flying Jim, a winner of 3 of 7 starts and trained by Dan Kenny. Flying Jim, a son of Flying Continental, began his 3-year-old campaign with a win over $20,000 optional claiming company at Turf Paradise in February. He defeated $25,000 claimers with 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:03 in his May 7 return to Emerald Downs.
