Its His Time will face Demagoguery again

MUSKEGON, Mich. - Its His Time, winner of four of his last five races, all at Great Lakes Downs, will be asked to carry top weight of 123 pounds in Wednesday's 18th running of the $50,000 Mackinac Handicap here. The Mackinac, a 1 1/16-mile fixture for Michigan-bred 3-year-old colts and geldings, attracted nine runners.

Its His Time, whose only local loss this year came to Demagoguery in the July 19 Spartan Stakes, will have to face that one again. He turned the tables on Demagoguery in the Dowling Stakes on Aug. 23, winning by more than three lengths. Trainer Ronnie Allen has regular rider Freddie Mata aboard Its His Time.

Demagoguery, trained by Gerald Bennett, the leading trainer at the meet, will have the services of the leading rider, Terry Houghton, who has been aboard him for all of his Great Lakes Downs starts this season. He boasts an allowance win in addition to his Spartan win before finishing third in the Dowling. He was weighted with 119 pounds.

Meadow Vespers, second in the Dowling and third in the Spartan Stakes, gets in at 118 pounds. Richard Rettele trains Meadow Vespers and has given the mount to Mary Doser.

The Mackinac field, from the rail out, consists of Showmaster, Jorge Collazo Jr. the rider, 113 pounds; Demagoguery; Lil Bit Tricky, Jane Magrell, 112; Its His Time; Boogie After Dark, Lizetta Cedeno, 109; Buscando Fortuna, Rafael Estrella, 112; Ernie Cat, Felipe Santos, 114; Meadow Vespers; and Demolition Zone, Roberto Perez, 113.

The Mackinac will be the sixth race on the 5 p.m. card.
