Isn't He Clever sets mark in Downs at Albuquerque


Isn’t He Clever set a track record on Sunday, when he won the seventh stakes race of his career in the $100,000 Downs at Albuquerque Handicap. He led throughout the 1 1/8-mile race, winning in 1:48.13, by 2 1/2 lengths over favorite and highweight Code West. It was another 1 1/4 lengths back in third to Forest Mouse.

The Downs at Albuquerque Handicap is the New Mexico track's richest offering for Thoroughbreds.

Isn’t He Clever ($10.60) set fractions of 24.28 seconds for the opening quarter, 48.56 for the half-mile, 1:12.24 for six furlongs and 1:35.93 for the mile on a fast track. Enrique Gomez was aboard for owners J. Kirk and Judy Robison and trainer Henry Dominguez.

Dominguez also trains Forest Mouse.

Isn’t He Clever earned $60,000 for the win, his 10th from 23 starts. His career earnings now stand at $704,685. Isn’t He Clever is a 5-year-old by Smarty Jones and he was bred in Kentucky by Monticule.
