Invading pair look sharp

AURORA, Colo. - Mr Charlypotatoes heads a competitive lineup of nine in Sunday's $25,000 Colorado Derby. He ships in here from SunRay along with Laddies Loaded for the 1 1/16-mile test.

Mr Charlypotatoes comes off a sharp win facing conditioned allowance runners at SunRay. He defeated Run at Night by a nose in that 6 1/2-furlong outing June 30, his fourth win of the year from nine trips. In his previous start he lost by three-quarters of a length in the one-mile SunRay Casino Handicap. Trained by Tony Klenakis, Mr Charlypotatoes won his maiden at Turf Paradise on Feb. 17 and has since been competitive in all but one of his starts.

Martin Bourdieu will ride Mr Charlypotatoes for the first time and they will break from post 8.

Laddies Loaded rallied to finish second in an allowance race at SunRay on July 4 in his second start of the season. Prior to that he was unplaced in an allowance there. He won his maiden on the California fair circuit last year and be making his fifth start. Orlando Martinez has been named to ride.

Hidden Van is among a local trio that will likely offer the sternest opposition to the top two. Hidden Van was a ridden-out winner in an allowance race July 14, his second win. He finished 3 1/2 lengths to the good of Simply Sinning in the seven-furlong race and appears ready for the added distance of the derby.

Folsum, winner of 5 of his 11 starts, comes off a front-running allowance score at a mile here on July 7, defeating Preferred Yield by a half-length.

Preferred Yield also returns on Sunday. He raced four wide into the turn on July 7, his local debut, and finished well. If he runs back to that effort, he will be tough to handle here Sunday.
