Interactif ships in for San Felipe

Interactif, third in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf last November, is among seven 3-year-olds entered in the $150,000 San Felipe Stakes on Saturday.

The San Felipe Stakes is run over 1 1/16 miles and is led by Caracortado, the winner of the Grade 2 Robert Lewis Stakes over 1 1/16 miles on Feb. 3, and Sidney's Candy, who won the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes over seven furlongs on Feb. 15.

Interactif, trained by Todd Pletcher, was scheduled to arrive from Florida on Wednesday. The San Felipe will be his first start on a synthetic track.

"I think it's a little bit of an X factor," said Michael McCarthy, Pletcher's assistant.

The San Felipe is likely to produce a few starters for the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby on April 3. The Santa Anita Derby field will include Alphie's Bet, who won the Sham Stakes last Saturday for trainer Alexis Barba. She also won Saturday's Pasadena Stakes on turf with Make Music for Me, who is bound for the $500,000 Lane's End Stakes at Turfway Park on March 27.

Loup Breton will go back to turf

Loup Breton, who finished 11th in the Santa Anita Handicap last Saturday in his first start on the main track, will revert to turf racing later at this meeting, trainer Julio Canani said.

Loup Breton won the Grade 2 San Marcos Stakes on turf in January. In the Big Cap, Loup Breton was always near the back of the field and finished 11 1/2 lengths behind race winner Misremembered. After the race, jockey Garrett Gomez said Loup Breton was "not traveling the way he normally travels."

Canani said Loup Breton is possible for the $150,000 Arcadia Handicap over a mile on turf on April 3.

Baffert fined for drug violation

Trainer Bob Baffert has been fined $1,000 after one of his starters in January tested in excess of the permitted level of flunixin, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory.

The excessive level was found in a post-race test taken from Mother Ruth, who finished fifth as the even-money favorite in the third race at Santa Anita on Jan. 7, an optional claimer over six furlongs.
