Intangaroo takes Humana Distaff photo

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Intangaroo, making her first start on dirt after running 10 previous times on synthetic surfaces, got up in the final stride to nip Baroness Thatcher and an unbelievably game Hystericalady to win the Grade 1 Humana Distaff.

Intangaroo, under Alonso Quinonez, took advantage of a torrid four-horse speed duel that saw Hystericalady, Miss Macy Sue, Sugar Swirl, and Graeme Six duel through fractions of 22.27 and 44.37 seconds for the opening half-mile.

Hystericalady put those three away and appeared headed to her second straight Humana victory, before Intangaroo and Baroness Thatcher caught her in the final strides in a blanket three-horse photo.

Intangaroo, owned by Tom Grether Farms and trained by Gary Sherlock, covered the seven furlongs in 1:22.03 and returned $30. Intangaroo is now 4 for 11 with two of those wins coming in Grade 1 stakes. In February, Intangaroo upset the Grade 1 Santa Monica at Santa Anita at 26-1.
