Instantly tries again at Northlands

Instantly will try and make amends for losing as the favorite in his last start when he runs in the feature race at Northlands Park on Friday. The $22,000 claiming race for 3-year-olds and up drew six horses and goes as the seventh race. Because of a local rule that allows fillies or mares to be entered for the next claiming level, Dawn of Fame goes for a $30,000 tag.

Instantly looks like the one to beat. Trained by Robertino Diodoro, Instantly was a beaten favorite when he finished third to Slews the Standard and Bling in a one-mile $22,000 claiming race on July 24. He gets a significant change in jockeys with leading rider Rickey Walcott taking over from 10-pound apprentice Omar Moreno, who has won three races at the meet. Instantly was also coming off a six-week layoff and he figures to move forward in his second start back.

Alabama Rain looks dangerous off of his sharp win for $13,000 on July 3. He was claimed out of the race by trainer Riley Rycroft, who is having a big meet with 12 wins from 43 starters. A Grade 3 winner, Alabama Rain has plenty of back class and he appears capable of handling the jump in class. Alabama Rain is easily the top money earner in the field with over $474,000.

Slews the Standard and Bling raced as a team from start to finish with Slews the Standard winning by a neck in the same race Instantly exits. Slews the Standard once again drew inside of Bling and would appear to have a slight advantage over his rival. He is trained by Tim Rycroft and will be ridden by Stephan Heiler.

Low Maintenance rounds out the field.
