Infatuation owns big Beyer edge

Infatuation will try to improve his record to 2 for 2 when he faces six Ohio-bred 2-year-olds in the $50,000 Hoover at River Downs on Sunday.

Trained by Joe Cain, Infatuation won his maiden debut locally when he crushed a field of Ohio-breds by 8 1/4 lengths June 18. His maiden win came at the same 5 1/2-furlong distance as the Hoover. A son of Storm Boot, Infatuation earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 60 in that event, 17 points better than his next closest rival in the Hoover.

Mathieu Adam retains the mount.

Cowgirls Rule, the only filly in the field, will also be well backed. Cowgirls Rule has run twice, finishing fourth in her debut May 31, then winning a maiden race June 14 by nine lengths. Trainer Tim Hamm will run Cowgirls Rule on Lasix for the first time in the Hoover. Nathan Solomon will ride her for the first time.

Drummond Island was well backed in his only race, but had to face Infatuation that day. Trainer Doug Cowans wins with 33 percent of his second-time starters, and Drummond Island signaled his readiness with a bullet three-furlong work in 35.20 seconds Tuesday. Rodney Prescott will ride.
