Infallible a sharp winner

Infallible was so impressive in winning Wednesday's Group 3, $98,000 Nell Gwyn Stakes that she was immediately installed as the favorite for the classic 1000 Guineas on May 4.

The handy winner of her only previous start in a seven-furlong maiden on Nov. 3 at Newmarket, Infallible returned there to slam 66-1 longshot Kylane by 3 1/2 lengths in the Nell Gwyn. Rank towards the rear early on, the 7-2 Infallible responded when asked by Jimmy Fortune to lead at the eighth pole and got the straight seven furlongs on good ground in 1:27.15. Juvenile Group 3 winners Nijoom Dubai and Albabilia were sixth and 11th.

Trained by John Gosden for her breeder/owner, Cheveley Park Stud, Infallible is a Pivotal filly out of a Cadeaux Genereux mare. She replaces the Pascal Bary-trained Natagora, winner of Monday's listed Prix Imprudence, as Coral's 3-1 favorite for the one-mile 1000 Guineas.
