Inexcessive Play takes La Senora

Sunland Park, N. M. - Saturday's $125,000-added La Senora Handicap at Sunland Park was supposed to be a confirmation for 3-5 favorite Miss Trixie but instead served as a coming out party for longshot Inexcessive Play. Inexcessive Play vied for the lead between horses through fractions of 21.53 and 44.00, then responded to the right-handed whip of jockey Adan Fuentes and drew off in the stretch to score by two and a half lengths. It was the first stakes win for the three-year-old daughter of In Excessive Bull, and with the $79,320 she earned her career earnings shot to $108,541 based on a 9-3-1-2 record. Inexcessive Play returned $39 to her mutuel backers and covered the six furlongs in 1:09.98.

Miss Trixie was bumped at the start, took the turn a bit wide and finished a non-threatening fourth. Second choice Shemoveslikeaghost took the place and longshot Shecanrun finished third.

The win was the biggest ever for Inexcessive Play's trainer, Jimmy Collier, who has been racing at Sunland since the track opened in 1959. Collier was joined in the winner's circle by Inexcessive Play's very pleased owner-breeder team of Margaret Bloss and Margaret Du Pont.
