Indy Joe wins first stakes

Indy Joe pulled clear in the upper stretch to claim his first stakes victory in the $70,000 Rumson Stakes for 3-year-olds at Monmouth Park.

Indy Joe, who was 1 1/2 lengths fourth to Lantana Mob in Grade 3 Hirsch Jacobs on the Preakness undercard in his last start, took over the lead on the outside after Time Tells All ran the first quarter in 21.46 over a sealed muddy track. Indy Joe, with Joe Bravo riding, led through final fractions of 44.21 and 56.47, completing the six furlongs in 1:09.47.

Rough Road Ahead finished a length back after stalking the pace along the rail and making a three-wide move on the turn. Go Go Shoot, the 9-5 favorite, made a move at the midway point but weakened to finish third.

A son of Indy King, Indy Joe paid $6.40 for the win and earned $42,000 for owners Circle Z Stable, Joseph Masone, and Mark Shuman, who also trains him.

* Saki to Me ($44.80) made her first start for trainer Stanley Hough a winning one, holding on for a half-length score over the hard-charging Forest Trail in the one-mile Little Silver Stakes for 3-year-old fillies. The race was moved from turf to a sealed muddy track.

Saki to Me, under Pablo Fragoso, made a four-wide bid on the final turn, reaching the front, and opened up to a two-length lead in the stretch over Dagger, the 2-1 favorite. Forest Trail saved ground early, was steadied entering the far turn, and was full of run late. Dagger was another four lengths back in third.

Saki to Me, by Fusaichi Pegasus, ran the mile in 1:38.72 and banked $39,000 for owner Morris Bailey.
