Indigo Girl heads Hallowed Dreams

While none of the fillies in Friday night's $50,000 Hallowed Dreams Stakes at Evangeline Downs are likely to eclipse the 16-race win streak Hallowed Dreams accomplished in her racing career, several do come in with solid credentials. Seven 3-year-old fillies are entered for the 5 1/2-furlong headliner, which will be run as the eighth race.

Indigo Girl is the one to beat in the Hallowed Dreams, having won 4 of her 9 starts, including a 2 1/4-length victory in the Azalea Stakes at Delta Downs in her last start. Trained by Sam Breaux, Indigo Girl will again be ridden by Guy Smith, who has been aboard for all four of her victories.

Maid in China, third to Indigo Girl in the Azalea as the 7-10 favorite, will try to pick up her second career stakes win. Her victory in the Southern Belle Stakes last fall at Louisiana Downs completed an undefeated 2-year-old campaign for owner Valene Farms and trainer Troy Young, who sent out the first two finishers in last Thursday's Inaugural Handicap. Young has given the return call to Gerard Melancon.

Velvet Angel, a two-time winner this spring at Sam Houston, makes her stakes debut and will be ridden by B.J. Hernandez for trainer John Locke.

Miss Pistol Town, Rubian Star, Forty Babes, and Urge to Splurge complete the field.
