Indiana Grand will race 120 days in 2016


Indiana Grand in Shelbyville will conduct 120 live racing dates in 2016, according to a calendar approved by the Indiana Horse Racing Commission on Wednesday.

The schedule will include 114 live racing dates for Thoroughbreds, and six live dates for Quarter Horse racing, according to the commission. The meet will begin on April 19 and run through Oct. 29.

Racing will be conducted at Indiana Grand on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday throughout April, May, June, September, and October, according to the calendar. Racing will be conducted on a five-day-a-week schedule, Tuesday through Saturday, in July and August. First post on all weekdays will be 2:05 p.m., while Saturday’s first post will be at 6:05 p.m.

Indiana Grand is the only track in the state that holds Thoroughbred racing. The state’s other track, Hoosier Park, was approved for 160 days of Standardbred racing, running from April 1 through Nov. 12.
