Indiana Downs: Trac N Jam takes Distaff on meet's closing night

Trac N Jam made a visually impressive move to split horses late and get up to win the $137,000 Indiana Downs Distaff on Wednesday evening. The Distaff was one of two stakes on the final evening of the Indiana Downs racing season.

Near the back of the back early in the field of nine 3-year-old fillies, Trac N Jam burst from the pack under Jermaine Bridgmohan to get up in the final jump by a nose. Notassshaprasuthink led late and looked like the winner in the final stages, but settled for second. Gold N Glamore was another nose back in third, a neck in front of fourth-place finisher Tourmailen in a blanket finish.

Trac N Jam, trained by Andrew Hansen, returned $19 to win and ran the mile over a firm turf course in 1.37.81.

In the evening’s other stakes, Hoosier Kingdom took the $88.950 A.J. Foyt by a half-length under Marlien St. Julien.

The Ron Herrell trainee was kept just off the early pace before getting through along the fence in the 1 1/16-mile turf event.

Unreachable Star, second in the 2010 running of the AJ Foyt, was the runner-up once again, finishing a length in front of longshot Sire Walter's Oro in third.

Favorite Heza Wild Guy chased the pace early before retreating.

Hoosier Kingdom returned $20.20 to win and was timed in 1 .43.74.
