Indiana Downs: Sir Traver eyes Oliver

Email

Sir Traver heads a field of nine Indiana-bred 3-year-olds, each searching for his first stakes win, in Saturday's $35,000 Oliver Stakes at Indiana Downs.

Sir Traver has beaten statebred allowance company here in his two starts this year, with bth race having come in the past month.

On April 26, Sir Traver rallied to score a 1 1/4-length victory in a 5 1/2-furlong event for nonwinners of two races lifetime. The gelded son of Presidential Order returned to score a 1 3/4-length win on May 14 at Saturday's six-furlong distance while being clocked in a brisk 1:10.20.

Joe Cain trains Sir Traver for his owner-breeder, Edmund Farkas. Fabio Arguello Jr., who has been aboard Sir Traver in both of his starts this year, has a return call on Saturday. The pair will carry top weight of 117 pounds under the allowance conditions of the Oliver.

Storm Tale is the only other entrant on Saturday with more than one career win.

In his last start, Storm Tale set the pace to the stretch before settling for second in Sir Traver's May 14 allowance win. Prior to that, Storm Tale scored a 6 1/4-length gate-to-wire win in an allowance race here on April 30.

John McKee will ride Storm Tale for the first time in the Oliver.
