Indiana Downs: Silver Max sets course record in Oliver Stakes

Email

Silver Max made quick work of the short field to win the $200,000 Oliver at Indiana Downs Wednesday evening and set a course record of 1:33.88 for the mile on turf.

Trained by Dale Romans, Silver Max has now won five races in a row - at five different tracks with five different jockeys - and was not headed in any of them. Romans was pleased with his horse's performance.

"He is a sweet horse," Romans said. "He is one of the best I have ever trained."

Silver Max had everything his own way in the field of six 3-year-olds until two of his opponents attempted to get by him entering the stretch. Jockey Victor Lebron shook the reins at Silver Max and he dug in, drawing off to win by 6 1/4 lengths.

Entrymate Cozzetti was second, a neck in front of Travel Advisory in third. Silver Max paid $2.20.

Romans said he is not sure where Silver Max will run next.

Good effort. Time not surprising given lack of rain in central Indiana. Drought conditions basically for last few months. Rich Arlington turf series or Colonial Park should be on radar.
