Indiana Downs: Facey's Spirit goes wire to wire in Merrillville

Facey's Spirit led from start to finish to win the $89,300 Merrillville for Indiana-bred fillies and mares at Indiana Downs Wednesday evening. One race later, Prince of Time won the $85,000 Brickyard for statebred 3-year-olds and up.

Trained by Chris Dorris and ridden by C.C. Lopez, Facey's Spirit dug in late to win the six-furlong Merrillville by a half-length. Dreamin Big closed late for trainer Mike Lauer to finish second, 3 1/2 lengths in front of Hoosier Honey, a late-charging third.

The running time over the fast track was 1:11.03 for Facey's Spirit and she returned $6.40 to win.

In the six-furlong Brickyard, Prince of Time was kept just off the pace by jockey Fernando De la Cruz before rallying into the stretch to win by a head over Pass the Crown, who finished three-quarters of a length in front of Dread the Pirate in third.

Trained by Bob Gorham, Prince of Time ran the six furlongs over a fast track in 1:10.82 and returned $13 to win.
