Include is Maryland's best

Include, a winner of five stakes last year, including the Grade 1 Pimlico Special, has been named Maryland-bred Horse of the Year by the Maryland Horse Breeders Association.

Bred and owned by Robert F. Meyerhoff and trained by Buddy Delp, Include was the unanimous choice among the eight Maryland racing writers who cast their votes for Horse of the Year and nine other divisional titles.

In addition to winning the Pimlico Special, Include, as a 4-year-old last year, captured the Grade 2 New Orleans Handicap and the Grade 2 Massachusetts Handicap, plus the Whirlaway Handicap at Fair Grounds and the Jennings Handicap at Pimlico.

From nine starts in 2001, Include complied a record of 5-1-2 and $1,435,400 in earnings.

Include, a son of Broad Brush, the Maryland Horse of the Year in 1986 and 1987, also was named champion older male.

Two other divisional winners were unanimous choices: Touch Love (2-year-old filly) and Disco Rico (sprinter).

The other titles were won by Magic Weisner (2-year-old male); Saratoga Games (3-year-old male); Sparkling Number (3-year-old filly); Shine Again (older female); One Eyed Joker (turf); and Tres Touche (steeplechase).
