Ima Fearless Hero takes Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity

CYPRESS, Calif. – Ima Fearless Hero won his fifth consecutive race and his second major futurity of the year in Sunday’s $1,957,175 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity for 2-year-old Quarter Horses at Los Alamitos.

The win gave owners Don and Kathy Meneely, of Kennewick, Wash., and trainer Jose Antonio Flores a remarkable sweep of the two major stakes at the track over the weekend. On Saturday, their Heza Dasha Fire, a half-brother to Ima Fearless Hero, won the $600,000 Champion of Champions, the nation’s top race for older horses.

On Sunday, Ima Fearless Hero ($4) finished a neck in front of 5-2 Docs Best Card, taking the lead in the final 150 yards of the 400-yard race. Ridden by Cruz Mendez, Ima Fearless Hero was timed in 19.68 seconds and earned $801,434. Dynasty Energy, a 39-1 outsider, finished third in the field of 10.

The race was run on a fast track that contained some moisture from evening rain.

Ima Fearless Hero has won 6 of 8 starts and earned $982,699. His winning streak includes the Ed Burke Juvenile in June, the consolation for the Ed Burke Million Futurity, and the Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association Breeders’ Futurity in early October.
