Larry Jones intends to point I'm a Chatterbox to the Grade 1 Delaware Handicap.

Larry Jones will have 60 stalls at Delaware Park this summer. His stable will include I’m a Chatterbox, who finished second in the Doubledogdare last Friday, and Midnight On Oconee, who finished second in the Grade 2 Rachel Alexandra and Silverbulletday at Fair Grounds over the winter.

Jones said I’m a Chatterbox will be pointed to the Grade 1, $750,000 Delaware Handicap on July 16 and that Midnight on Oconee will be considered for the Grade 3, $300,000 Delaware Oaks on July 9.

“We are going to be bringing in a nice bunch of 2-year-olds, so hopefully they can make splashes like we have had in the past,” Jones said.

Since 2002, Jones has sent out nine 2-year-old maiden winners at Delaware Park who have gone on to become graded stakes winners. They are Believe You Can, Eight Belles, Friesan Fire, Hard Spun, Lovely Maria, Mark Valeski, Mr. Bowling, Old Fashioned, and Proud Spell.

“The Delaware barn area is set up to be horse friendly,” Jones said. “It means a lot to some of these young horses, and in a lot of cases, it can make a difference in development.”
