I'll Have Another gets first winner

Email

After a slow start to his stud career, dual classic winner and champion I’ll Have Another was represented by his first winner Saturday, when Un Autre won a maiden special weight on the Tokyo Racecourse turf.

Un Autre became the fourth winner from six starters out of the Taiki Shuttle mare Taiki Shine by defeating 14 other juveniles in the race at 1,600 meters, or about a mile.

I’ll Have Another won all four of his starts in 2012 for owner Paul Reddam, ripping through the Robert B. Lewis Stakes, Santa Anita Derby, Kentucky Derby, and Preakness. He suffered a career-ending injury that forced him to scratch from the Belmont Stakes the day before what would have been his Triple Crown bid. The son of Flower Alley was subsequently sold to Japanese interests and now stands at Big Red Farm.

I’ll Have Another, who has 101 2-year-olds in his first crop, has been represented by nine starters to date. Along with Un Autre, only one other has hit the board – Meiner Brocken, who placed third on debut.
