Ice Mist scores a front-running victory in Saturday's Jersey Lilly Stakes at Sam Houston.

Trainer Bernie Flint was hoping Ice Mist would like Sam Houston’s turf course when he entered her in Saturday night’s $50,000 Jersey Lilly, and the ground indeed agreed with the filly. She coasted to a two-length, front-running win over War Tigress in the 1 1/16-mile race, while it was another neck back in third to Blushing Dixie.

Ice Mist ($9.20) invaded from Fair Grounds for the Jersey Lilly. She set a controlled pace in the filly and mare stakes run over firm turf, leading the field through an opening quarter in 25.39 seconds. War Tigress chased in second as Ice Mist proceeded through a half-mile in 50.75 and six furlongs in 1:15.05. The winner covered the distance in 1:45.29.

Chris Landeros was aboard Ice Mist for owner Naveed Chowan. It was the second significant turf win of the meet for Landeros, who late last month took the Grade 3, $200,000 Connally Cup aboard Schramsberg.
