Ibn Khaldun faces challenge

EmailWinner of the Group 3 Autumn Stakes at Ascot two weeks ago, Ibn Khaldun can give Godolphin a Group 1 victory in the $409,000 Racing Post Trophy at one mile on Saturday.

A Dubai Destination colt out of Fillies Mile and Irish 1000 Guineas winner Gossamer, Ibn Khaldun will be tested by a pair of Group 2 winners in City Leader and Curtain Call. City Leader, a Fasliyev half-brother to a Breeders' Cup Sprint winner, Lit de Justice, beat Achill Island, a Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf hopeful, by a half-length in the one-mile Royal Lodge Stakes, while the Sadler's Wells colt Curtain Call beat another Juvenile Turf entry, Domestic Fund, by four lengths in the one-mile Beresford Stakes.

Declaration of War, second to Rio de la Plata in the seven-furlong Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere, goes for Peter Chapple-Hyam, who trained last year's Racing Post winner, Authorized. But Tajaaweed, a Dynaformer colt whose dam, Uforia, is a half-sister to Mr. Greeley, is the upset danger off his 5-length debut victory for Michael Stoute in a one-mile, 54-yard Nottingham maiden on Oct. 10.
