Hute backed up a seven-length maiden win with a stakes victory Saturday, when he held for a 1 1/4-length win over Dom Strait in the $85,000 Red Hedeman Mile at Sunland Park. It was another length back to favorite He’s Another Who in third. The Red Hedeman was one of two New Mexico-bred stakes on the card. Not My Note won the third stakes race of his career in the $85,000 Mt. Cristo Rey Handicap. He won the 4 1/2-furlong race by 4 1/2 lengths, covering the distance in 49.52 seconds. Tracy Hebert was aboard Not My Note ($3.20), a son of Fusaichi Zenon, for Michael Weatherly and trainer Simon Buechler. Hute ($11) came into the Red Hedeman off a maiden special weight win Dec. 30 at Sunland. He was prominent from the start Saturday, dueling through fractions of 23.72 seconds for the opening quarter and 46.93 for the half-mile. He went on to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:37.85. Ken Tohill was aboard for Michael Stinson and trainer Joel Marr. Hute is a son of Western Gambler.
