Hurricane Alan a live longshot

Email

Hurricane Alan is capable of a mild upset in a competitive renewal of the Group 2 Celebration Mile at Goodwood on Saturday.

Winner of the Sandown Mile in April, Hurricane Alan was seventh behind Soviet Song in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood on July 28. In his last race, on Aug. 12, however, he was a sharp third behind the subsequent Juddmonte International runner-up, Norse Dancer, in the Group 3 Sovereign Stakes.

While Hurricane Alan will have to contend with the Sussex runner-up Nayyir, the German 2000 Guineas winner Brunel, and the recent Group 3 Hungerford Stakes winner Chic, his likely 12-1 price makes him the value play.

In the 1 1/4-mile Group 3 Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor, last year's Arlington Million dead-heat runner-up, Kaieteur, tries to get back on track following four unplaced efforts, but the tough-as-nails Gateman is the selection off his sharp second last time in the Group 2 Scottish Derby over the Winter Hill distance.
