Humorous Lady romps in Mid-Peninsula Stakes

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Humorous Lady ($3) broke sharply and built a four-length lead in the opening quarter mile as she won the $50,660 Mid-Peninsula Stakes by eight lengths at the Bay Meadows Fair on Sunday.

Coming off a wire-to-wire victory by a nose in the CTBA Stakes at Del Mar, Humorous Lady was never challenged as she defeated Her Emminence in the 5.5-furlong race. The winning time was 1:02.72.

"When I saw her run a 21-and-1 opening quarter, I said, 'Oh shoot,' but she's better than these. I knew she could keep going," winning trainer James Chapman said. "She's been a little deceiving, but she knows about racing now."

Winning rider Russell Baze, who was already peaking at his distant competition down the backstretch said, "I had to make her switch leads down the lane, but I had a lot of horse. I never even had to ask her."

Humorous Lady has now won three of four starts and earned $120,370.
