Huge pick six carryover into Monday at Spa

Email

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Three days into the Saratoga meet and nobody’s been able to solve the pick six yet.

After Major Force ran down Cookie Crisp in Sunday’s 11th race, it created a three-day carryover of $577,107 into Monday’s nine-race program. The pick six will start on race 4 (2:40 p.m. eastern). There are three turf races in the sequence – including the $200,000 Caress Stakes – but there was rain in the forecast Sunday night into Monday.

There was a $209,631 carryover entering Sunday’s card and there was an additional $644,701 wagered into the sequence.

It started off innocuous enough when favored Thrice ($7.70) won the opening leg. Then Ricardo Santana Jr. took over riding three straight double-digit priced winners – Tainted Angel ($13.20), Somerset Sandy ($43.80) and Ginger N Rye ($24). Abel Tasman’s victory at 4-5 left five numbers alive entering the final leg.

There was one winning ticket alive to Cookie Crisp, but Irad Ortiz Jr. rallied Major Force ($13.60) up in the final stride to create the massive carryover.
