Huffman in as CD racing secretary

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Several sources closely associated with Churchill Downs Inc. confirmed late Tuesday that Ben Huffman has been hired as the flagship track's racing secretary.

Neither Huffman, who currently serves as racing secretary at Keeneland and Fair Grounds, nor anyone in the Churchill organization would confirm that he has been hired to replace Doug Bredar at Churchill. But an official announcement could come as early as Wednesday, said several sources.

By stepping into the new position at Churchill, Huffman will resign his post at Fair Grounds, another CDI-owned track where racing is scheduled to resume Nov. 23 after a one-year hiatus. The new racing secretary at Fair Grounds has yet to be named, although Kevin Greely, the racing secretary at another CDI track, Arlington Park, is expected to be named to that position in the near future.

Bredar was fired Monday after 4 1/2 years as racing secretary at Churchill and Ellis. Dan Bork, a longtime racing official in Kentucky, is expected to be named Bredaris successor at Ellis Park in Henderson, Ky.
