SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Howard Wolowitz, a Grade 1 winner at Kentucky Downs last year, put in a strong workout Friday morning at Saratoga that convinced his connections he’s ready to return to Kentucky Downs in the $2 million Kentucky Downs Turf Sprint on Aug. 30. Howard Wolowitz zipped a half-mile in 46.64 seconds Friday morning over the Oklahoma dirt training track, while galloping out five furlongs in 59.96 seconds. He went in company with Urban Legend, a 4-year-old gelding who is 2 for 13. Howard Wolowitz hasn’t run since he finished since he finished 10th in the 1351 Turf Sprint going 6 3/4 furlongs in Saudi Arabia in February. Friday’s work was his fourth bullet drill from five moves he has had between Gulfstream Park and Saratoga since July 13. “He’s coming from a layoff. We need to push him a little bit,” trainer Jose D’Angelo said. “He trained very well. I feel he’s ready to run at Kentucky Downs.” Howard Wolowitz won the Grade 1 Franklin-Simpson Stakes for 3-year-olds at Kentucky Downs last year on his way to the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, a race in which he finished ninth, beaten three lengths. Saying that the five-furlong Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint is too short for Howard Wolowitz, D’Angelo said he will instead point the horse to the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Del Mar on Nov. 1. :: Get exclusive Saratoga Clocker Reports from Mike Welsch and the Clocker Team.
