Here's my race-by-race rundown of Saturday's pick four at Santa Anita on Feb. 2, 2013. I'm building my wager with TicketMaker, found exclusively on DRF.com. I'm using incremental bets of $0.50 towards a budget of $100.00.
Race 7 (Optional Claimer)
PRESS BARON (#2) was a smart 3rd in the G2 Sir Beaufort here Dec. 26. He’s proven on turf and the drop may be key. POWER FOOT (#6) tried some tough graded stakes competition last summer/fall. He found that a tad too much but fits very well here. TE RAPA (#8) has been knocking on the door and may be ready to break through. The freshening may do the trick. MAJESTIC MOMENT (#5) ran poorly in his only grass try (8th) but he’s a much better colt now and has worked superbly for his return.

Race 8 (Strub Stakes)
FED BIZ (#2) just edged the other 2 in the G2 San Fernando and may be poised to do it again. The colt has loads of ability and appears back on track. His speed should have him in the thick of it from the start. GUILT TRIP (#3) finished strongly for 3rd in the San Fernando and figures to be coming. He’ll appreciate the added ground. TRITAP (#4) gamely dogged FED BIZ to the wire in the San Fernando and fell just a head short. It won’t take much for him to turn the tables.

Race 9 (Arcadia Stakes)
VAGABOND SHOES (#3) is a quality Euro raider who’s been working well for his first U.S. start. SILENTIO (#7) has won 3 of 4 including the G2 Sir Beaufort over this course at this trip. SUGGESTIVE BOY (#13) has loads of quality but must deal with a tough draw. STRONG SUIT (#14) likewise is a high-class Euro but got a dreadful draw. WILKINSON (#11) might be set for his best after running 5th in the G3 main track sprint Dec. 29, his first start in 7 months.

Race 10 (Claiming Race)
EATON HALL (#2) showed signs of life when dropped to the $25K level here Jan. 5 and he’s dropped further, which may do the trick. SPIT BALL (#10) has looked like a new horse of late with blinkers added. He was very impressive blasting maidens here Jan. 4. ET TU WALKER (#14) has come back sharp after 5 months off with 2 runner-up finishes here at this level. Those stamp him a big threat. COYOTE ROAD (#7 takes a significant drop for this.

My wagers
With TicketMaker I'm able to put greater emphasis on my "A" selections while still having coverage with my "B" and "C" picks just in case. This allows me to maximize my budget for this pick four, and come up $5 under budget.

Best Bets
MONCLOVA galloped out strongly after closing belatedly in her second trip postward May 26, from which the runner-up exited to graduate with a 68 Beyer. The daughter of Queen's Plate winner Niigon is bred to run long, and can break through with the stretchout from six and a half furlongs to a mile and a sixteenth. BE MIND PHIL is returning on short rest off a closing second in her debut, going a mile around one turn on the grass. She has a blend of speed and stamina in her pedigree.
