How to bet Santa Anita's Pick 4 - April 6, 2013

Email

Here's my race-by-race rundown of Saturday's pick four at Santa Anita on March 6, 2013. I'm building my wager with TicketMaker, found exclusively on DRF.com. The bets are being made in $0.50 increments, and my budget is $100.00.

Race 8 (Providencia Stakes)

FLASHY WAYS (#8) ran on nicely in the China Doll (4th behind 3 of Saturday’s foes) but that was her first start in over 4 months so she can improve. MAGNIFICENT SHIRL (#7) rallied well for 2nd in the China Doll as she continues her ascent. BIRDLOVER (#5) beat many of these in the China Doll when leading all the way and she’s shown she isn’t a need-the-lead type. SCARLET STRIKE (#6) chased champion Beholder on dirt last time. She drops and her only prior grass try was excellent (2nd beaten a nose in a stakes here Jan. 1). SARACH (#3) was favored in the China Doll after 2 big wins on this course. She ran 5th and may bounce back.

Race 9 (Santa Anita Derby)

HEAR THE GHOST (#2) beat some of these in the Grade 2 San Felipe when he got a dream pace set-up, but note he’s run big sprinting, pressing fast splits so he’s not some one-dimensional closer. FLASHBACK (#1) ran splendidly in defeat in the Grade 2 San Felipe when he got into a prolonged duel and succumbed late to ‘GHOST. He’s worked well since and a more patient ride makes him scary. SUPER NINETY NINE (#6) tossed in a clunker in the Grade 2 Rebel at OP March 16 when 5th but he can do much better. He’s the only one in here with a triple-digit Beyer – and he has 2 of them.

Race 10 (Allowance Optional Claimer)

POINTS OFFTHEBENCH (#4) was huge off the bench to be 2nd in a very fast heat after nearly a year on the bench. OLIVER’S TALE (#9) was a dazzling maiden winner here March 1 (105 Beyer). WALL DANCE (#10) was only a half-length behind ‘BENCH in that very fast Feb. 2 race so he fits. TUMMEL (#6) thinks he owns this place, having won his last 4 here.

Race 11 (Starter Allowance)

EAST SKY (#4) may be a timely claim for Mitchell as his form has improved, topped off by a superb 2nd here March 10 (beaten a nose). BIO PRO (#2) lost a heartbreaker in a big try on this course a couple months ago. INFLAMED SPIRIT (#6) whipped maidens here March 17 and was claimed and new trainer O’Neill moves him to turf. BIPARTISAN (#11) looked like a new horse with blinkers here Jan. 21, whipping maidens. He’s been freshened, is bred to turf and has worked strongly recently.
