How to bet Mountaineer Park's Pick 4 - Saturday, August 4, 2012

Here's my race-by-race rundown of Saturday's pick four at Mountaineer Park on August 4, 2012. I'm building my wager with TicketMaker, found exclusively on DRF.com. Bet increments are $0.50, and my budget is $100.

Race 5 (The West Virginia Senate President's Cup)

MILLENIA (#8) may have turned the corner. After some modest main-track form at CRC she blasted some nice gals at MTH and may be ready for this tougher spot. ARTEMUS KITTEN (#3) comes here sharp off a nice SW at ELP and merits much respect. REVELSTOKE (#6) looked super blasting some of these in the Firecracker here July 3 and while that synthetic track try at PID July 24 was solid the return to turf may be what she wants. COUNTERPARTY (#11) has won 2 of her 3 turf tries for Pletcher. The $575K sales buy may be this good.

Race 6 (The Senator Robert C. Byrd Memorial)

GUAM TYPHOON (#7) is hot to the touch having won 6 straight. He has the speed to be in the thick of it from the start. WILL’S WILDCAT (#5) chased some of the game’s best 2 back (Shackleford, Amazombie, Gantry) and was a good 2nd in a G3 last time. RAVALO (#6) may be an 8yo but there’s still gas in the tank and he’s won 4 of 7 here. DELAUNAY (#9) has won 3 of his last 4 including a SW at CD last time out. Looks like Amoss, who claimed him 2 back, bought at the right time.

Race 7 (The West Virginia Governor's)

TAPIZAR (#1) is just a cut below the game’s best. He’s been freshened and has fired big before off the bench. SERUNI (#5) comes here sharp and while the bulk of his recent work has been on turf note a big win the only time he tried this main track last summer. PARODY (#6) appears to have turned the corner as after some decent form he’s unleashed 3 big winning efforts. PONZI SCHEME (#7) is back in a hurry after a fine 2nd in a very tough stakes at MTH July 29.

Race 8 (The West Virginia Derby)

HANSEN (#9) is no doubt the one to beat as last year’s 2yo champ won the G3 Iowa Derby in a laugher. That being said, there’s other speed to deal with. CALLED TO SERVE (#6) can’t be underestimated. His G2 Swaps wasn’t his best but his prior 2 outings (wins) show his quality. LE BERNARIN (#7) has won 3 of his last 4 including the G3 Pegasus June 17. He’s been freshened since and has worked splendidly.
