How to bet Keeneland's Pick 4 - April 13, 2013

Here's my race-by-race rundown of Saturday's pick four at Keeneland on April 13, 2013. I'm building my wager with TicketMaker, found exclusively on DRF.com. I'm betting in $0.50 increments, and my budget is $150.00.

Race 7 (Shakertown Stakes)

PERFECT OFFICER (#8) won this last year off a vacation. He returns from another layoff and has worked superbly. NEXT QUESTION (#6), a Grade 1 turf sprint winner in Canada last fall, found the BC Turf Sprint a bit too tough. He’s been freshened and drops. REGALLY READY (#7) once would have humbled these. His form tailed off dramatically last year but if he’s close to what he once was he’ll be scary. SOMETHING EXTRA (#1) ran splendidly in defeat at GP.

Race 8 (Madison Stakes)

BYRAMA (#1) lost her only synthetic start, at DMR last summer, but it took a Grade 1 winner to beat her (Reneesgotzip). She’s continued in good form out West since. FANTASY OF FLIGHT (#10) couldn’t handle Golden Mystery when that gal was on top of her game at GP this winter. She won her only start here. SHUMOOS (#7) is versatile, runs on anything and might not face anyone quite as good as the last 2 she faced at SA (Rumor, Teddy’s Promise). HOLIDAY FOR KITTEN (#3) is 2 for 3 here and has fired big before off the bench. KUNE KUNE (#4) was strong out West and won her only synthetic start, which came in England vs. boys. JAMAICAN SMOKE (#6) was a fine 3rd in her first start back this year.

Race 9 (Jenny Wiley Stakes)

CENTRE COURT (#1) came back smokin’ to win a Grade 2 at GP last month. She may be the best turf distaffer in the land. BETTER LUCKY (#3) wasn’t far behind ‘COURT when 3rd in the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth here last fall and looked super beating elders in the Grade 1 Matriarch.

Race 10 (Blue Grass Stakes)

PALACE MALICE (#5) had a brutal trip in the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby. He has talent and can win with a better trip. RYDILLUC (#13) has been monstrous on turf and there’s no reason he shouldn’t transfer that form to this surface. UNCAPTURED (#7) made his name on Polytrack (at WO), winning 4 of his first 5. His comeback 2nd in the Grade 3 Spiral on TP’s Polytrack was encouraging. FEAR THE KITTEN (#14) won his only local start and looks headed the right way. DYNAMIC SKY (#1) is proven here having been a fine 2nd in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity last fall. JAVA’S WAR (#4) was 3rd in that same Breeders’ Futurity and his comeback 2nd to top-class Verrazano in the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby was nice. CHARMING KITTEN (#8) has talent the Kitten’s Joys love this place.

My wagers

With TicketMaker I'm able to put greater emphasis on my "A" selections while still having coverage with my "B" and "C" picks just in case. This allows me to maximize my budget for this pick four, and I end up coming out $2.00 under budget.
