How to bet Hollywood Park's Pick 4 - Saturday, June 30, 2012
Email
Here's my race-by-race rundown of Saturday's pick four at Betfair Hollywood Park on June 30, 2012. I'm building my wager with TicketMaker, found exclusively on DRF.com, with a $100 budget and $0.50 incremental bets.
Race 7 (Optional claimer)
STARSHIP FLARE (#2) may be poised for an upset as she’s run well on this course, has been freshened and worked superbly. RICSPRETENTIOUSGAL (#6) is dangerous coming off a fine 2nd in a spot like this June 2, her first turf try. JOLLY DAYS (#4) is heading the right way and may have found her niche routing on turf. LIGHT OF LIFE (#5) has been freshened and drops since facing much tougher in a Grade 3 here 2 months ago.

Race 8 (Optional claimer)
PATRIOT’S VOYAGE (#4) is the one to beat coming off 3 straight good routes including a fine 2nd in a spot like this here May 28. ACCELERANT (#8) stalked and ran 3rd here last month and came back with a bullet work so maybe he’s ready to peak. TAKE CONTROL (#3) hasn’t been seen since Dec. 2009 but the regally bred runner has worked well for his return for top trainer Baffert. DEATH STAR (#5) looked super blasting maidens here May 13 and may be this good. UNSTOPPABLE TOPPER (#1) beat Cal-breds in 2 straight and now faces open foes. He may be good enough to handle it.

Race 9 (The Shoemaker Mile)
MR. COMMONS (#8) may be the nation’s top miler when on his game. He left himself too much to do in the Grade 2 American Handicap but with a return to top form can mow these down late. SUGGESTIVE BOY (#4) was a beast in Argentina and invades with a gaudy resume (three Group 1 wins). It’s most encouraging they picked a tough spot like this for his U.S. debut. LITTLE MIKE (#3) is a scary East Coast shipper who comes off a strong frontrunning Grade 1 win at CD on the Ky. Derby undercard. He’ll take some catching.

Race 10 (Maiden special weight)
STRONG WIND (#5) is the proven commodity with 2 good outings in as many starts and he seems to be improving. MONEY MAKIN SAM (#8) boasts some smart works for his debut for O’Neill who does very well first out, and lures Bejarano. GREAT FRIENDS RULE (#3) is another O’Neill firster who comes into this off some good rehearsal work.

My wagers
With TicketMaker I'm able to put greater emphasis on my "A" selections while still having coverage with my "B" and "C" picks just in case. This allows me to hit my $100 budget for this pick four.

Best Bets
MONCLOVA galloped out strongly after closing belatedly in her second trip postward May 26, from which the runner-up exited to graduate with a 68 Beyer. The daughter of Queen's Plate winner Niigon is bred to run long, and can break through with the stretchout from six and a half furlongs to a mile and a sixteenth. BE MIND PHIL is returning on short rest off a closing second in her debut, going a mile around one turn on the grass. She has a blend of speed and stamina in her pedigree.
